Howdy!

So I figure it’s probably best to tell you a little bit about little old me.

But I’m not important. So I won’t.

What I will tell you is what I’m up to, and more importantly – why I’m doing it.

On July 12th 2009 several hundred riders & runners from all across the USA will be taking part in the San Jose round of the Livestrong Challenge to raise much needed funds for the continuing battle against Cancer. Taking part in the event will be about 100 members of Team Fatty: Fighting For Susan.

The Susan we’re united in the fight for is Susan Nelson. Wife to Elden ‘Fat Cyclist’ Nelson, Writer, Maker of Beautiful things and Mother to 4 great Children. Susan has Cancer. Which sucks.

Elden created Team Fatty as a way for us all to do our bit towards the fight against Cancer and we’re determined that we’re going to spread the word, raise as much as we possibly can and make people aware of just how devastating this disease is.

There’s a horrible statistic that 1 in 3 people will be impacted by Cancer at somepoint in their lives.

1 of 3 people.

That’s staggering.

And wrong.

Cancer sucks. But we’re smarter and more determined than it is. We can beat it.

So on July 12th Team Fatty San Jose will roll out for our leg of the fight. The vast majority of people will actually be in San Jose for the ride but for various complicated reasons which I won’t bore you with right now: I won’t be.

So instead I’m going to do something incredibly silly.

Seriously. It’s so daft it’s almost genius.

Fatty ran the inaugural ‘100 Miles of Nowhere‘ event in May and countless people around the World stepped up to the challenge to ride 100 miles without actually getting anywhere. Some rode on rollers, some on short road circuits, some on exercise bikes.

I’m tweaking it slightly.

On July 12th I will ride 100 miles, off road, without actually getting anywhere. I’ve got a closed singletrack circuit which is pretty much bang-on a mile long and I’ll complete it 106 times. During this time I’ll climb a total of 11,448ft without ever getting more than 217ft above sea level.

Which is silly, I’m sure you’ll agree.

But it is for a very good cause.

So this is the point where I ask you to donate whatever you can to the Lance Armstrong Foundation via my event page which you can find here. Any donation, no matter what size helps us in the fight. So please, read Fattys blog to learn about Susan and what she is going through then make your donation to the LAF through my event page.

Thankyou.

My next post will be a good deal shorter, I promise!
